Brief historical antecedent of Gbagyi people

Image
The Gbagyi are widespread in Niger, Kaduna, and Plateau states and the Federal Capital Territory. Some lives in Kogi state.  In many places, particularly in FCT, Kogi and Kaduna states, they are interspersed with other people. They are divided into two main groups. The eastern groups is called Gbagyi-Ngenge or Gbagyi-Matai and they are more populous. The western groups are called Gbagyi-Nkwa or Gbagyi-Yamma. The western and eastern groups speak different languages, and within them, there are sub-groups and dialects. Not all Gbagyi agree on what the divisions are. Whereas the Gbagyi people living in towns and cities are quite modernized, the vast population of rural dwellers are little affected by modern ways. Their attitude towards modern clothing and medical care is increasingly positive, but most rural Gbagyi, being farmers, see education as a waste of time. The average literacy level is 27%. Primary schools and health facilities are not well distributed. In many places, roads ar...

THE BELIEFS AND PRACTICES OF VARIOUS FORMS OF WITCHCRAFT AMONG THE GBAGYI PEOPLE

Image
These include agunzheyin (“witchcraft”), ashigbe (“medicine”), and zoku (“divination”). These three concepts have the inherent meanings of good and evil. This essay, however, highlights more of their negative influence.Witchcraft: Reality, Theory &InterpretationHenry Jay Watkin in defining witchcraft draws from the Eurocentric conception it represents. He says the word “witch” comes from the English noun “Wicca” which means, “to cast spell.” He therefore defined it as “a web of beliefs and practices whose purpose is to manipulate nature for the benefit of the witch or the witche's client.” The New Shorter Oxford Dictionary sees it as “the practice of witch or witches especially the use of magic or sorcery: the exercise of supernatural power supposed to be possessed by a person in league with devil or evil spirits.” While the first definition agrees mostly with the concept of witchcraft in Gbagyi land which generally has to do with „the witches‟ being able to influence supernatu...

Image
INSECURITY Arise my ancestors! Your leftovers have been usurp and set ablaze by your mongers. Your unfinished journey is now a synonym of sorrow, befriended by love of power, Shrouded under the ocean of dilemma. Our lives are on edge, The wind blew the spirit of the dead, where the sand is drenched in cold blood. The sun set and all take refuge for fear and succor. Are we humans? Where has our conscience gone? Would my unborn children have a land to trade on? J Hussaini Imperfection isn't perfection Perfection is perfection And I'm not the definition of perfect Im nothing So please Just don't look at me Your unborn will have a story to ruminate by taking a good glance your wooden slate I get lost in this world I'm afraid you will leave I'm told we'll be forever but that saying can I believe they all say I can find happiness, where happiness my ancestors whispered to me when I was in mother's womb? Certificate or Sabificate which should I choose?

Image
A PAPER PRESENTED BY GADAGA HABAKKUK ADAMU AT THE 2020 FED HIKE  Imagine a certificate holder without a practical knowledge of what the certificate entails, what an eyesore?. In the world today, you need beyond your certificate to climb the ladder of success. No employee of labour is ready to take risk of seeing your abilities on paper ( certificate), they also want to see you put your abilities into actions (sabificate) Sabificate a Nigeria Pidgin English word means to know or understand. when put together, it is having a hand-on knowledge or being practical on something. Certificate on the other hand means an official documents attesting a certain fact, in particular, it is actually a paper and just the knowledge of theories. Imagine a drop out like bill gate employing so many graduates, Certificate is very important but sabificate is sacrosanct to back it up. Where your certificate cannot take you, your sabificate can take you and even beyond. So when you acquire certificate end...

AFAGAMIWORLD PRESENT: The Spirit Of FEAR

Image
Miss Paul Afagami Grace. Miss Gbagyi Nigeria      A lot of people are facing this problem especially now and at the moment that the world is facing this particular problem (Corona virus). I will like to explain a little about fear.      Fear is an unpleasant feeling triggered by the perception of danger, real or imagined thing happening at a particular time and period.Fear is an emotion induced by perceived danger or threat, which causes physiological changes and ultimately behavioral changes, such as fleeing, hiding, or freezing from perceived traumatic events. Fear in human beings may occur in response to a certain stimulus occurring in the present, or in anticipation or expectation of a future threat perceived as a risk to oneself. The fear response arises from the perception of danger leading to confrontation with or escape from/avoiding the threat facing individual at a particular time, and am sure a lot of us are trying to fight our fears, people fear...

THE CHALLENGES OF GBAGYIZA IN THE COMTEMPORARY.

Image
Comrade Gadaga Habakkuk Adamu. National president Gbagyi Students Association.    Gbagyi is one of the most innocent, peaceful and organized tribe in Nigeria. Unharmed with yet ungratified hospitability and generosity. Gbagyi as a race has a wonderful geographical location spread around five states of Nigeria: Abuja, Kaduna, Niger, Nasarawa and Kogi state. What a major tribe among the over 250 Tribes in Nigeria. Gbagyi is a tribe with one of the most unigue culture and language that catches the attention of whoever sees it when displayed or listen to it when spoken.  The common character appreciated by all ethnic group is "Humility". But to me with "Sincererity of purpose" a typical Gbagyi man can be very accommodating having calm looks and so helpful to others, but wicked to his fellow Gbagyis. *A beautiful girl but lazy in mind" how ugly is she?  This bring me to the question: Do the Gbagyis have the ability to move forward instead of competing within themsel...
