THE CHALLENGES OF GBAGYIZA IN THE COMTEMPORARY.
Gbagyi is one of the most innocent, peaceful and organized tribe in Nigeria. Unharmed with yet ungratified hospitability and generosity. Gbagyi as a race has a wonderful geographical location spread around five states of Nigeria: Abuja, Kaduna, Niger, Nasarawa and Kogi state. What a major tribe among the over 250 Tribes in Nigeria. Gbagyi is a tribe with one of the most unigue culture and language that catches the attention of whoever sees it when displayed or listen to it when spoken.
The common character appreciated by all ethnic group is "Humility". But to me with "Sincererity of purpose" a typical Gbagyi man can be very accommodating having calm looks and so helpful to others, but wicked to his fellow Gbagyis. *A beautiful girl but lazy in mind" how ugly is she? This bring me to the question: Do the Gbagyis have the ability to move forward instead of competing within themselves? Have they acquired the skill to qualify them for a place in the contemporary society? Do they have any strength to face the future? Reading through these questions will get your mind skip for a moment as it clearly shows that the challenges ahead of a GBAGYIZA is enormous and our generation isn't learning from the past so as to bring about a better future.
Back to the question I asked earlier, do the Gbagyi's have the strength to face tomorrow? My fair answer is "NO", until the Gbagyis are granted Citizenship rights. The whirlwind of revolt will continue to shake the foundation of our nation until brighter day emerges. But there is something I most say as an advice to the Gbagyiza who stand on the warm threshold which leads to the palace of justice. In the quest of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not speak to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. As we walk, we must make a pledge that we must always march ahead. There is no going back. There are question to devotees of civil rights.
"When will you be satisfied? We can never be satisfied as long as the Gbagyis are victims of unspeakable heroes of better Nigeria. We cannot be satisfied as long as our children are unable to gain the national scholarship.
We will not be satisfied until justice roll down like a mighty stream. We can never be satisfied as long as our land is being taken from us and given to "Better Nigerians". We as ethnic group have a vision deeply rooted in the Gbagyi dream. I have a dream that one day Gbagyiza will rise and live out to the true meaning of his cread.
Almost 60 years after independence, the life of the Gbagyis is still crippled by the menacles of segregation among better Nigerian. The Gbagyis are still languishing in the comer of Nigerian society and finds himself on exile in his own land.
I am sad that my ethnic group, "Gbagyi" isn't represented in the Federal Executive Council, with our population, we the Gbagyis deserve a represententation in the Federal Executive Council of Nigeria.
Ironically, the political elite in Nigeria have always recognized and appreciated their true population figures during their electioneering campgains and election but refuses to recognize these figures for appointment and allocation of resources afterwards, an implication of class marginalization.
Our internal challenges which also cannot be overlook as an ethnic group are;
- Ability to genuinely accept one another.
- *Ability to accept and take responsibility.
- Ability to appreciate one another's contributions.
- Ability to fight the veils like hatred, envy, jealousy, malice and underutilizating of opportunity.
Until the above issues are internally solved our dream might not see the light of the day.
